A Haiku for Expectation

When I came back home

I did not expect to find

God waiting for me.

I expected you

To run away forever

And never return.

I thought the future

Would be sitting on my step

Wrapped in a nice bow.

I thought that meaning

Had become a childish word

Empty and fruitless.

I did not expect

To find out that apple pie

Was just for eating.
